This is "a word to the wise" entry.
Avoid working at the Metra Bar & Club Leicester Square, London.

Bar and Waiting Staff
They will tell you that they may give you a job but you must turn up and work to see if you are suitable.
Like many before you, you will turn up and they will have you working from 9.00 pm. till 3.00 am.
At the end of the night they will say goodbye to you and you will not hear from them again.
You will not be paid anything.
This happened to my daughter when she first moved to London, two years ago, it happened to several of her friends since and sadly it is happening now.
Metra management have found a way to get "free" labour and they are using it.
Do not let them use you, your friends, your family or anyone you know - put the word out.

CHARITY EVENT FUNDRAISER: PERHAPS
We like the idea of this novelty act.
The video was sent to us by an act that we can not trace.
However, the idea is a good one and can be replicated.
Can you think of ideas of how you can turn this little act into a major fundraiser?
We have some very good ideas - all wholesome and legal.
If you can come up with other schemes let us know or better still, do them yourself and raise lots of money for your favourite charity.

Celebrity Awards Presenter: Terry Christian
Terry Christian
Terry Christian is a skillful Awards dinner event host (and I must say having seen him present at these kind of things before, very funny and good at it).
Terry Christian (born 8 May 1962) is a British television and radio presenter whose credits include Channel 4's late night Youth Entertainment show The Word and ITV1 moral issues talk show It's My Life. He also presented six series of It's My Life, two series of Turn On Terry and numerous other programmes for ITV, MTV, VH1, Channel 4 as well as a variety of different local and national radio programmes on stations including Radio 4, BBC6 Music, Talksport, Century Radio, Key 103, Signal and BBC's Radio Derby and Manchester.
Terry Christian has written numerous articles and regular columns for newspapers and magazines, including the Daily Mirror, Daily Mail, Daily Express,Manchester Evening News, The Observer, The Times, The Sun, Rolling Stone magazine, New York Rocker, The Guardian, and The Sunday Times, and is currently a columnist in Northern Life Magazine.
He has also written three books:
Brothers - from Childhood to Oasis (Virgin Publishers), Reds in the Hood(André Deutsch 1999) and My Word, a look at the world of television in the 1990s, was published by Orion Books in June 2007 to favourable reviews, and came out in paperback in May 2008.
He writes the music pages for the Pride of Manchester website.
Terry is a "keen" Manchester United football club fan:
Terry Christian entered the Big Brother house on the 2nd January 2009.
Terry Christian earned second place and the respect and admiration of most who watched the show.
He showed empathy to those under emotional strain, he was kind to everyone, his practical common sense helped to win games that earned food, drink and privilege's. Terry clearly demonstrated his high intellect, while retaining his "no frills" northern accent. He survived to the end - not being voted out by either the public or his peers in the Big Brother House, losing only to the winner of the series, Ulrika Jonsson.
Terry is currently a regular guest on the daytime TV show "The Wright Stuff" where his contributions are typically witty in nature.
In real life, Terry is very easy to work with - no "diva" or "precious" overtones. He is amusing, sharp and witty.
Because of his radio and television background, he is very comfortable centre stage while appearing before large crowds. He is professional and will produce what is required, "on mark, on time".
Terry has "stand-up comedy" skills that allows him to be humorous when presenting a series of awards, turning a repetitive task into a special event.

CARIBBEAN STEEL BANDS & SPANISH BANDS
I can supply both Spanish & Caribbean bands. I also have Limbo & Flamenco Dancers.
(I have a band who has a steel pan player that plays with a Latin rhythm section - so a fusion of Caribbean and Latin flavours results - it very pleasing to listen to.)
I will just provide information on both types of bands then perhaps that will help with decision making - if you want to hire either please contact me.
SPANISH BAND
The Spanish band I use most offers dancers, guitarists, percussionists and vocalists.
It can operate as a trio and can be as large as a 9-piece.
They normally offer Spanish guitar inspired background music.
They also offer Spanish Flamenco dancing cabaret, with an audience participation session.
The guitar playing is very intricate and clever, the dancing passionate sometimes fiery, the singing; intense and heartfelt - its the real deal.
- I can also offer a Gypsy Kings type trio.
- I can also offer a Spanish male/female duo that play Spanish, Latin and Pop music - they offer a Spanish flavour rather than authentic Spanish traditional music. There is some dancing from the female vocalist.
CARIBBEAN BAND
Report from last corporate event follows:
The Caribbean Steel band had delegates dancing around tables first, then "full on", "going for it" on the dance floor at around 7.00 p.m.
The crowd did not want to stop dancing even when dinner was served.
They eventually did sit down to eat but not before "conga-ing" around the banqueting suite.
After dinner the Limbo Cabaret was the usual success with a very gifted young lady delegate winning the Limbo competition - to the supporting cheers of her departmental colleagues, other delegate's and hotel serving staff.
The band have been professionally working on the corporate circuit for around a decade.
They like to get people "going" and creating a carnival atmosphere.
Their success rate is 100%!
Musically, the band plays tunes using steel drums, keyboard, bass, guitar and percussion.
They cover styles including: calypso, soca, reggae, soul and pop.
The band has two lead male vocalists and the remaining members of the band supply backing vocals.
The band have worked for a string of Blue Chip PLC's as well as small and medium sized companies.
They are punctual, appropriately smartly dressed, accommodating and easy to work with.
Most of all they are effective at giving people a "good time".
Limbo dancing cabaret is available, at an additional charge, however, the band will provide backing music for the dancers and a lively master of ceremonies at no additional charge.

BANDS FROM ATMOSPHERIC SPECIAL EVENTS
I am delighted to present a menu of bands and acts that are working constantly, repeatedly wowing audiences at private parties and corporate events.
There are a couple of other bands that wear kilts on stage like this band at similar fees.
In some cases I will actually supply the bands website where you will find contact details.
You will not get a better deal going direct, as it were, because the bands/acts discount major agencies like mine that provide regular repeat business.
You will get better service from us, since most bands concentrate on their performance rather than customer service. Additionally, if you opt for "add-on's" like other bands, other acts, additional lighting, dancers, meet & greet staff, travelling disco etc - we are in a position to supply the best selection currently in the market place. We will coordinate the package so presentation on event night will be slick and professional.
Some of the following talent is premium priced - so priced because the talent in question command such fees on an ongoing basis.
Some of the talent is "medium" priced i.e. priced at a level most clients find reasonable.
Where the talent is priced at a "cheap" level, it is because they are new to the private party/corporate entertainment scene. They are not "less good" than the above price category bands & acts but they have to date not earned a track record of repeated successful performances. When they do their fees will rise because they will have an implicit "guarantee factor".
BANDS
Huge
A soul band line-up with an up-front, in-your-face, amusing, charismatic front man that has raised audience participation to an art-form.
The band takes its name from the lead vocalist front man - who is "huge"! (Physically tall and very well built). He is a Geordie, with amazing North East UK wit.
The band are very good, however, very few people remember what the band was like - they just remember front man "Huge".
The Ultimate Covers Band: Duvet
This band does what "Huge" does i.e. they have a dynamic front man (lead vocalist) who gets a crowd going and has a repertoire of audience participation pieces that amaze and amuse party goers.
The band is good with an expanded set that spans recent decades as well as soul classic hits.
They are semi-pro and medium priced.
The Bogus Brothers
A professional band that have been around for decades. They are firm favourites on the corporate circuit and very popular for milestone event private parties.
The band has magnificent stage presence and a high level of musicianship. They play the party classics and carry audiences away on a wave of enthusiasm. You will get congas and other audience participation dances presented at an intensity that very few can resist.
There are a couple of other bands that wear kilts on stage like this band at similar fees.
The Jules Band
This band plays the same type of music as the Bogus Brothers at about the same standard. They have a very accomplished and attractive lady singer. The band can play the finest Jazz Standards around and when they play jazz they are popular in venues such as Ronnie Scots Jazz Club. However, they work as a function band and have been on the functions circuit for about a decade as a semi-professional band and certainly fill dance floors.
They are available in three size formats i.e. quartet, quintet and septet. The septet has brass horn players. The quintet is perfect for weddings and birthdays. The quartet is a budget option that does the job.
The Kitts Band
We are at the top notch with this band.
Their regular gig is BBC TV's " Strictly Come Dancing"
They also play a glittering array of corporate events and upper end private parties.
The Kitts Project merges selected Kitts musicians and vocalists with a DJ to offer very "street credible" dance sets.
If you have the means, this band will deliver the goods.
Velvet
This is a six-piece band that is a medium priced version of Kitts Band.
All the musicians are of a very high standard. Lots of private party and corporate experience.
Band members in their mid to late 20's.
Groovy Revolution
Lads lively band

Lots of corporate, private party and wedding reception experience.
The Catch
The Catch - is a lively, energetic party band, playing an eclectic mix of pop covers from the 60`s through to the present day.
Our 7,8,9 or 10 piece line-ups have been entertaining at weddings, corporate functions and parties, including small private audiences to larger crowds of more than 10,000 people…. for over a decade.
Our 7,8,9 or 10 piece line-ups have been entertaining at weddings, corporate functions and parties, including small private audiences to larger crowds of more than 10,000 people…. for over a decade.
This full-time professional band is very versatile.
See the following videos:
The Catch - versatile party band
The Catch presents - Hitsville - The Sound Of Motown
The Catch presents - Boogie Wonderband - 70's Soul tribute
The Idolls
My current favourites.
Three big girls with big personalities and big talent, singing big hits and creating big enjoyable atmospheres.
All three girls are full-time professional singers who have had a string of principle roles in West End musicals including Priscilla Queen of the Desert and Hairspray.
They sing classic hits, 80's dance anthems, soul & funk and so on.
Having said that, their musical theatre roots makes them comfortable singing standards.
See YouTube video:
They sing to backing tracks or front a band - the choice is yours - the former is obviously more cost effective.
I would have them at my party - in a breath.
Dan & Lyndsey Duo
Lovely music for listening to or for dancing played by Dan & Lyndsey.
Both play guitars and Dan also plays keyboards. Both sing beautifully.
Material ranges from soul to 60's pop.
The Noel Trio
This is an amazing band.
They play Tamla Motown covers, Soul, Classic pop hits, Rock 'n' roll, Latin grooves and some Brit pop. (Even The Beatles hits can be covered).
If you add a saxophone player they can cover a greater proportion of Motown and soul classics, including Ray Charles numbers.
If you add a lead guitarist to the core trio they can in fact play a very solid selection of "indie" covers.
The keyboard playing bandleader played for Finley Quayle for many years and Jarvis Cockers' Pulp.
He has played at Glastonbury, Party in the Park, Ronnie Scots Jazz Club, TOTP and CDUK plus tours of Europe, Japan and America.
The band has been working for us at corporate events, private parties and weddings over the past three years - every event has had wonderful success ratings.
They are easy on the ear making their very positive point with quality music rather than volume, lighting or razzmatazz. Noel has a fantastic singing voice and a golden personality.
ACTS
The acts I favour currently tend to come from Britain's Got Talent.
For example: Piff the Magic Dragon
Prices for these acts usually start at under £2K.
I have a wonderful meet & greet and walk around act - a George Formby tribute.
If you do not know who George Formby is - its not for you. However, this guy has a personality the size of a major planet and he roves around playing his ukulele, singing ditties and raising smiles.
I have a team of fit young female dancers. They do meet & greet ( often on camouflaged stilts) and a cabaret performance if required.
They wear various theme costumes e.g. French, Latin, Caribbean. Currently they are working to an Olympic theme.
I have a novelty act that can do several things.
- Currently they perform a comedy number where they cover all the major Olympic events in 25-minutes.
- They are famous for being Digital Paparazzi - two fleet street photographers that hungrily take photos of your guests arriving "a la red carpet celeb style". The photos they take are available to view and download shortly after the event. See website: http://www.prazzi.
com/ - They have a show stopping cabaret number called the handbag dance - where they dance "naked" with a big handbag to save blushes. The handbags are progressively exchanged for smaller versions, until modesty is threatened - its "cheeky" and very funny to some. See video above.
- They do a juggling meet & greet (with cabaret show if required) - the meet and greet juggling is a tremendous ice-breaker.

Celebrity "Indie" DJ's ( No.2)
Here is a short list of some of the DJ sets supplied by celebrity DJ's.
This list concerns itself primarily with the artistes that play "indie" music.
All are from bands that made their name on the "indie" rock circuit or by selling large amounts of recorded material - enough to get high chart placings and headline on stadium tours and festivals.
Using a celebrity DJ is the cheap way to get a famous personality to your event to play music (all be it recorded music and not necessarily the artistes own music). However, they will be there, at your event, in person.
Often they will "meet & greet" your guests and most will pose for informal camera shots.
The following names will give you an idea of who you can get - and the good news is there are more to choose from.
For more information please contact us.
